Bala Cynwyd Woman Raps on Rare Disease

By

A Bala Cynwyd woman turned her battle with a rare disease into a creative outlet. 6abc reported her lyric escape from her health condition.

Romy Braunstein was misdiagnosed with MS in 2001. Throughout her 35 years of work in radio, Braunstein dealt with unexplained symptoms such as falls, difficulty walking, and chronic fatigue.

She was then rediagnosed with a rare disease called Lambert Eaton myasthenic syndrome.

This invisible disease affects signals sent from the nerves to the muscles. Braunstein thankfully was able to find medication to help make her life a little bit easier.

“The medication has saved the quality of my life,” she said. “And now I am fueled and passionate by that to tell everybody in every community to identify symptoms.”

Her song “99” lists the symptoms of this rare disease. Braunstein was inspired to write the tune to spread awareness. And even though she’s met music stars around the country, she hasn’t taken a stab at the rap game.

Until now.

Braunstein worked with the music company Songlorious and Detroit-based artist J Roy to produce and record 99, which is now available for streaming on Apple Music.

Braunstein says she wants the song to be the anthem for rare disease.
