Philadelphia ride-share provider Indego may soon be bringing for-hire bicycles to Bala Cywnyd.

A City Ave District–driven bike-share program could be on its way to Bala Cynwyd. Richard Ilgenfritz saddled up to report the idea for Mainline Media News.

Earlier this week, Lower Merion commissioners adopted a resolution that supports enabling its staff to submit an application for $150,000 in grant money that would bring Indego, the Philadelphia-based bike-share service provider, to the City Avenue area.

The Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program would provide the grant money. The resulting funds would then be used to purchase equipment, such as bicycles and docking stations, for public use throughout the City Avenue District.

The commissioners were presented with the outlined details of the grant by Jillian Dierks, senior planner in the township building and planning department, before they voted on the issue.

“Staff has submitted an application for a Montco 2040 grant,” said Dierks. “There is a 20 percent match for that grant. The funds would be used for the purchase of capital for equipment to allow for an expansion of Indego into the City Avenue District.”

Out of the required $31,000 for the match, half has been committed by the City Avenue District.

The equipment will be managed by that same organization.
