The daughter of Penn Valley native M. Night Shyamalan, Ishana, will direct a new thriller called The Watchers, which will be out in June 2024, writes Franki Rudneskey for PhillyVoice.

The Watchers is based on a 2021 horror novel by A.M. Shine.

The plot focuses on an artist named Mina who gets lost in a forest in Ireland and becomes trapped by creatures that watch their captives each night. 

The film will be Shyamalan’s debut and she is also writing the script. New Line Cinema picked up the movie. It will be produced through her father’s Blinding Edge Pictures production company in Berwyn. Filming will begin later in the year.

The pair have worked together in the past as Shyamalan has written, co-written, or directed episodes for her father’s Apple TV+ series The Servant. She has worked on several short films and music videos.

Furthermore, The Baldwin School graduate studied at M. Night’s alma mater, New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

“I’d seen Ishana’s short films, I’d seen her writing, she was going to NYU’s Tisch School where I went, and I saw this opportunity,” said M. Night. “I said to her, ‘I think you should take this shot. I think you should take a semester off from school and you should come here and do this.'”
