Keith House at Graeme Park, Horsham, onetime home to the Penrose family.

A recent visitor shared newly unearthed photos with the Friends of Graeme Park, whose experts parsed the images for new insights about the location’s past. The Graeme Park Gazette shared the results.

The Horsham property dates to 1721, when Sir William Keith, Governor of Colonial Pennsylvania, built a brewery structure there. Ongoing construction eventually yielded The Keith House, his residence.

In 1739, Dr. Tomas Graeme acquired the real estate, hence the name Graeme Park.

The pictures reflect the property’s 1800s ownership by Samuel Penrose and family, who stayed onsite until 1920.

Exact identifications are difficult, but experts suspect this image includes Mary M. Penrose in the group of women. She was one of the daughters of Abel Penrose, the third Penrose owner of the house.
