Valley Forge and Montgomery County offer a vast array of winter activities for all ages. Visit state parks for sledding or cross-country skiing, or head to popular attractions like Spring Mountain Adventures, where a skating rink and ski slopes await.

With so much to see and explore in Montco, a winter getaway is within easy reach.

Parks

After a winter snowfall, head over to Montco parks for cross-country skiing, sledding, snowball wars, or just making angles in the drifts.

Go cross-country skiing at Fort Washington State Park, where a 1.7-mile loop trail in the Militia Hill Day Use Area welcomes beginners and experts. That area is also home to a 400-foot slope for daring sledders and tubers.

Other Montco parks with extensive cross-country skiing trails include Evansburg State Park, Lower Perkiomen Valley Park (a trailhead for numerous trails), and Lorimer Park, where sledding is also ideal.

For even more winter activities, visit Green Lane Park, which offers ice skating, cross-country skiing, and sledding. When the temps plummet and Deep Creek Lake freezes to a safe thickness, it’s the Montgomery County spot for ice fishing.

Attractions

Looking for something less wild and more organized? Montgomery County has local attractions that come fully alive each winter.

One of the most popular spots is Spring Mountain Adventures in Schwenksville, which keeps its slopes snowy throughout the winter season so visitors can enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding, even if it hasn’t snowed in days. It’s a recommendable spot for experienced snow bunnies but for novices as well; Spring Mountain provides skiing and snowboarding lessons for beginners. And all equipment is ready for hire onsite.

For a day of ice skating and/or hockey, glide over to Oaks Center Ice, Montco’s number-one skating spot.

It features three NHL-sized rinks, plenty of equipment to rent, lessons in skating and hockey, and public stake times for novices and experts of all ages.

Visit the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board website for full details.
