The SJU Hawk's nest in Wynnewood may have several new occupants in it, owing to another merger.

Saint Joseph’s University in Wynnewood is continuing its trend of merging with other colleges. Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences in Lancaster will become part of the university, bringing with it 2,000 additional students. Ryan Mulligan schooled his Philadelphia Business Journal readers in the particulars.

The union will happen next January.

The latest expansion follows SJU’s meld with the University of the Sciences in 2022. That consolidation added 2,000 students to the university’s present undergraduate census of 8,000. This latest merger will also bring in 20 new nursing and health programs.

“We know that programs like those offered at [Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences] are not only sought after by students, but they also have an exponential value in the communities where those students then go on to live, work and lead,” said interim president Cheryl McConnell.

Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is part of the University of Pennsylvania medical system.

In addition, Saint Joe’s will add a campus in Lancaster County at 850 Greenfield Road just outside Lancaster itself.
