Saint Joseph's University unveiled a $300 million fundraising campaign to finance several capital projects on its campus.

Last week, Saint Joseph’s University unveiled a $300 million fundraising campaign to finance several planned capital projects, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The campaign comes less than a month before the university finalizes its merger with the University of Sciences.

The funds raised will be used on various projects on the school’s 125-acre Hawk Hill campus on the border between Lower Merion and West Philadelphia.

A $50 million gift from the Maguire Foundation is serving as an anchor for the fundraising campaign. St. Joe’s has already managed to raise $140 million of the $300 million goal in the campaign’s silent phase. Joe Kender, vice president of university relations, said the university hopes to raise the remaining money in the following four to five years.

Out of the $300 million, St Joe’s plans to use $150 million on upgrading living and educational boarding on campus, $75 million for scholarships, and the remaining $75 million for academic and mission-driven programs.

These plans could undergo some changes over the years.

“It’s not unusual for a campaign as it evolves over time to add new priorities, so we fully expect that to be the case,” said Kender.
