Pamela Oister, of Gilbertsville, and her sister Rachel Oister, of Boyertown, were being treated at Lehigh Valley Health Network for breast cancer last year when they received unexpected gifts from a stranger. Rose Itzcovitz reported the random act of kindness for WFMZ 69 News.

The presents delivered by Angelia Kistler brought them unexpected comfort in their battle against the deadly disease.

Pamela was getting her last chemo treatment in the same month her sister went into remission.

On the day of that last chemo, they each received a care package.

“We were ecstatic,” said Rachel.

The sisters quickly realized that the gifts they found in the package could only have come from somebody who had endured the same rigors they did.

“The only thing that stays true in your cancer fight is the comforts that are provided to you,” said Rachel. “That is what this box provided: cozy socks, ChapStick, candies, lotions.”

This year, the sisters are paying the kindness forward with their own gift of small comforts for 12 patients at the Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute. They’re also supplying presents to 12 additional patients at the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.
