IKEA’s 2022: Small Rise in Sales, Big Strides in Support for Its People and the Planet

The 2022 IKEA Annual Summary contains modest good financial news for the Conshohocken firm. But it also presents a rosier picture of company efforts to support employees and be environmentally friendly.

“Our position as the leader in life at home allows us to evolve, grow and thrive. That’s why IKEA U.S. is proud of the growth we achieved this year,” said Javier Quiñones, IKEA U.S. CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer.

Results for the international retailer with a Conshohocken U.S. flagship include:

  • General operations:
    • $5.9 billion in total sales, as well as an 18.8 percent increase in e-commerce sales (a slight rise from 2021)
    • 69 million onsite visitors and 494 million shoppers online
    • A rise in starting wages to at least $16 per hour, with enhanced benefits
    • $1.5 million in support to nearly 300 nonprofits
  • DEI advancement:
    • Publication of equity data as a step toward transparency
    • Collaboration with Accenture to benchmark and collect data on equity performance measures
  • The environment:
    • Commitment to a 2030 date to become climate positive
    • Installation of public EV charging stations at 25 locations nationwide
    • Expansion of program to buy back gently used IKEA furniture
    • Collaboration with 70 thought leaders on climate-change initiatives
