3 Things That Make Your Resume Pop on Search Engines
There are plenty of things to avoid including in your resume. But there are also some phrases that can help you stand out. CNBC’s Gili Malinsky spoke to Harvard career advisor Gorick Ng.
He says to treat your resume like Search Engine Optimization, with relevant key phrases to make it pop.
Here are three things Ng says to include on your CV:
1. Words in the Job Description
Look up the job posting(s) you want and take note of what key words or phrases are used. If the tasks listed match your experience, be sure to include them in your job descriptions.
2. Use Impactful Verbs
Ng says to start each bullet with a past-tense action verb to pack the punch. “Coordinated”, “designed” and “built” are all great examples to show your capabilities.
3. Use Numbers Too
Verbs do the job, but numbers help hiring managers visualize the impact you made at your previous position. Include the number of sales you made, or the hits your website got. Percentages and growth are also important to illustrate the value you brought to your company.
