Heather Michaelson of Ambler is a 46-year-old videojournalist who uses Facebook Live to spotlight — and therefore support — area businesses still troubled financially by the pandemic. Madeleine Wright covered Michaelson’s coverage for CBS3 Philadelphia.

Michaelson professes a fondness for “…helping people with or without disabilities — all people.”

Her viewpoint may be informed by her own circumstance: she lives with Down syndrome herself.

Every Monday and Friday, Michaelson’s show Hanging with Heather enables her to interview area businessowners. She’s big on those in the service industry — chefs, videographers, and such — whose livelihoods were jeopardized by COVID-19 lock downs.

The show runs on the Facebook page of Integrate for Good, an empowering nonprofit in Creamery, Pa., for students and adults with disabilities.

Bev Weinberg, Integrate for Good founder, hired Michaelson.

“Some of [the interview subjects] at first say ‘I’m going to be interviewed by someone with Down syndrome?’ Like they’re a little bit surprised by that,” Weinberg said.

“And within seconds, even before we go live, they quickly realize that Heather is an incredible interviewer.

And it really changes the mindset of so many people.”

When Michaelson isn’t hosting Facebook Live shows, she’s a community educator, watercolorist, and public speaker. She addressed Harvard students earlier this summer.

She has some advice for anyone facing a challenge: “Stay calm and try again,” Michaelson said.

“And don’t give up.”
