Michoacán Abuela’s Hand-Delivered Recipes Keep Norristown Restaurant Authentic for 25 Years

David Páez.

La Michoacana, a family-owned taqueria, has been serving Norristown for 25 years. Located at 301 E. Main Street, the menu offers has cuisine specific to the Mexican state of Michoacán, prepared from family recipes and techniques brought stateside — and handed off personally by the clan’s grandmother (abuela). 6abc spiced up a recent broadcast with this story’s details.

Starting out in 1998, the now iconic cocina had humble beginnings with an unassuming six-table space. Now, the restaurant serves up to 80 guests and has 90 items on their menus featuring popular margaritas and desserts.

David Páez was a regular at the eatery when the family offered him a sever position. He’s now a key member of the staff.

“I’m the only one out of the family, but I’m kind of family because I’ve been here for the last 16 years,” said Páez.

He says the guests’ favorite desserts are tres leches and the flan. Patrons are also fans of the specialty margaritas. Páez says that these cuervos-fueled cocktails can be seen on every table on Friday nights.

Artwork that reminds the family of home is painted vibrantly on the walls.
