Montgomery County Community College invites applications for the Part-Time POWER Community Liaison position. It is a temporary, grant-funded career steppingstone for the right-fit person hired.

The Part-time POWER Community Liaison handles internal and external outreach for the POWER Program. He or she will connect with agencies, schools, and other organizations to build awareness about the POWER Program and secure prospective participants. The liaison also maintains connections with current/former POWER students by coordinating POWER alumni for testimonials, relevant student data, and key messages.

Duties and Responsibilities

The role involves:

  • Spearheading marketing/outreach efforts to meet enrollment/registration numbers
  • Attending community and/or government meetings to increase awareness of the program
  • Executing initiatives such as student intake, orientation, and registration, which that ensure the program is operable and meets goals
  • Working with the POWER Coordinator and the Admissions team to plan strategic outreach efforts in the community, on campus, and online
  • Inputting student data and/or relevant notes into Excel
  • Coordinating student intake interviews for program admission
  • Compiling data from referral agencies to maintain the community partnership communications guide
  • Updating and managing social media campaigns for POWER

Essential Knowledge and Skills

The optimal candidate will have facility in the following areas.

Education/Training/Work Experience

Essential backgrounds include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with four years’ outreach experience required; Master’s Degree in a helping profession is preferred
  • A minimum of three years’ experience working with a variety of vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated success engaging internal and external support for at-risk or overlooked populations
  • Strong presentation skills to offer information to large groups in short time periods
  • Ability to research, cultivate, and maintain new agencies for referral possibilities

A history of the following is desired:

  • Experience working within the Montgomery County Human Services field
  • Knowledge of college software systems such as Microsoft Word and Excel

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Successful Part-Time POWER Community Liaisons will have:

  • An understanding of (and sensitivity to) the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff and students in general and the POWER Program population in particular
  • A background in marketing and counseling experience
  • The ability to work day, evening, and weekend hours, 25 per week, for ten months
  • Access to the MCCC Blue Bell campus primarily but occasionally to its Pottstown site as well
