FYI Philly Declares One Ambler Cantina Mixologist as Margarita Master

By

FYI Philly’s listed recommendations for best area margaritas saw four of its spots go to city-centric restaurants. But one Montgomery County version broke through and made the list as well, according to reporter Timothy Walton.

The Phila. standouts, from geographies all over town, were:

  • Cantina Dos Segundos, 931 North 2nd St.
  • La Llorana Cantina Mexicana, 1551 West Passyunk Ave.
  • Las Bugambilias, 15 South 3rd St.
  • La Calaca Feliz, 2321 Fairmount Ave.

The lone best-of outside the city limits was Los Sarapes, 1101 Horsham Rd., Ambler.

“They are 14 ounces,” said bar manager Victor Varillas, describing the generous serving. And each one makes use of bold fruity flavor from tequila that’s infused onsite.

The blood orange margaritas is a favorite. The blackberry version benefits from the real-deal fruit that’s pulverized, extracted (pulp and all), and served in glasses rimmed with sugar and trimmed with lemon and berries.

The signature drink at Los Sarapes is what Varillas calls a “pinatini,” a mashup of a margaritas and a martini.

To ensure the pineapple flavor fully steeps into the tequila, the fresh fruit is left to sit in the alcohol for six weeks.

The restaurant‘s two decks make an ideal spot for sipping, especially during fall’s warmer weekend afternoons.

“People like our drinks because they are made fresh from scratch,” Varillas said.
