Amazon Fresh is indicating a desire to become part of the renovated Willow Grove Shopping Center.

The Willow Grove Shopping Center refresh will take that label literally as an Amazon Fresh grocery retailer joins the site plans. Ryan Sharrow checked out the news in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

According to state filings, Amazon Retail LLC has set its sights on 102 Park Ave., Willow Grove. The storefront at that address has remained vacant since Barnes & Noble walked away from the site in early 2021.

Its renovation is part of a larger, ongoing effort by Federal Realty Investment Trust to overhaul the entire 183,000-sq.-ft. retail center, refreshing it from 70 years of shopper traffic.

Since its first installation in Calif. in 2020, Amazon placed 41 versions of its grocery business across the U.S. The only one in Pa. in Warrington, Bucks County; however, more suburban stores are planned for:

  • Brookwood Shopping Center, Bensalem
  • Route 1, Langhorne
  • Latches Lane, Springfield
  • West Chester Pike, Havertown

Rockville, Maryland-based Federal Realty reported Willow Grove Shopping Center at 58 percent leased as of Dec. 31.

The shopping center sits off Route 611 across from Willow Grove Park, a PREIT-owned mall anchored by Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s.

More on Montco’s ripening site for Amazon Fresh is at the Philadelphia Business Journal.
