Work is evident on the nesting of 90 new townhouses on the Turtle Creek Golf Course site; the course's eighth hole can be seen in the distance. The developers assert that no change to play will result from the project.

Like one of its namesake reptiles poking its head out of its shell, the emerging transformation of 15.6 acres of Limerick’s Turtle Creek Golf Course into a site for 90 townhouses is making itself evident. Joe Zlomek, of The Sanatoga Post, updated readers on the progress.

The project now has a visible presence, as contractors started in mid-Aug. to clear the land of brush and prep it for the installation of utility lines. That work led to several closures of South Limerick Road, diverting traffic elsewhere in the neighborhoods.

Limerick Township approved the project, a development named Ironwood and constructed by W.B. Homes, last fall, according to a 2021 Times Herald report.

Room for the subdivision came from a sale of property owned by the Waltz family. The overall landscape contains the 18-hole course, its like-branded miniature golf course, a snack shop, and a fieldstone residence in which some of the family still resides.

The residential community is not expected to interrupt any of the property’s present-use operations.

The plot, according to a Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board blog post, covers 300 total acres. In 1743, it was part of a William Penn land grant, and its connection to the Waltz family goes back to a Black Angus cattle farm operated onsite by the clan’s patriarch. He added a mini-golf course in 1964, and the real estate has been a recreation destination ever since.

The township vetted the impact of the new homes, considering particulars such as traffic flow, school enrollment, and environmental impact; all were addressed to the satisfaction of officials.

The latest on repurposing a segment of Turtle Creek Golf Course for residential purposes is at The Sanatoga Post.
