The 2022 list of National Merit Semifinalists reveals the top PSAT scorers in Pa., a measure that may contribute to their earning of National Merit Scholarship achievement. Kristen A. Graham checked her spelling and her math in filing the related story for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The local scholastic standouts were among the highest scorers on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Semifinal Qualifying Test in the state. They represent less than one percent of high-school seniors nationally, according to data the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Of the 409 students from the Phila. area, 141 of them — just over one third (34 percent) — attend a Montgomery County–based school.
