Montgomery County Community College seeks a part-time training and assessment coordinator for Blue Bell-, Norristown-, and Pottstown-related CareerLink responsibilities.

This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position.

The Training and Assessment Coordinator, CareerLink, is responsible for educating CareerLink clients and administering assessments and training as required for them to qualify for government subsidized training or credentialing funds.

The role also conducts training sessions for Workforce Investment Board (WIB) partners and educational entities and offers training and remediation to clients.

The hiree may work from the CareerLink office in Norristown or the college’s Blue Bell or Pottstown campuses; therefore, the ability to travel among them is a prerequisite.

Duties and Responsibilities

This training and assessment coordinator may be called upon to:

  • Administer testing and preparation for National Career Readiness Certifications (NCRC) provided by the ACT, Corp. to include WorkKeys Curriculum and WorkKeys Assessment, and any other assessments or tools provided through CareerLink, such as Career Scope.
  • Provide the continuity, uniformity, and security necessary to ensure that all examinees are tested in accordance with requirements.
  • Evaluate test scores to determine eligibility for grant-subsidized educational funds. Offer remediation at MCCC when appropriate WorkKeys Assessment levels are unmet.
  • Maintain records and compile reports to ensure usage complies with charges and to ensure program effectiveness.
  • As part of remediation, educate individuals so they reach their highest potential in applied math, reading, and the ability to locate, synthesize, and apply pertinent information in the workplace.
  • Provide monthly status reports to the Director of Workforce Development.
  • Create training procedure guides for those who assist with administration and interpretation of assessments.
  • Interview and assess the needs of clients who are new to CareerLink and offer available resources. Record results and submit to a CareerLink specialist.
  • Provide information about the College and counsel trainees to make appropriate career decisions based on the results of their assessments.
  • Confer with directors and instructors at WIB-funded or private-sector schools and offer advice on the effective uses of WorkKeys Curriculum and WorkKeys Assessments. Demonstrate the effective use of WorkKeys Curriculum and WorkKeys Assessments to other educational entities.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions to broaden and improve workforce readiness and leadership skills.

Knowledge and Skills

Apt applicants will possess appropriate levels of the following:

  • Education/Training/Work Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, human services or related field required.
    • Two or more years’ experience providing academic advising, counseling, testing/assessment and job development services in a higher education or social services setting; experience in educational and training program administration preferred.
    • Experience working with socioeconomically disadvantaged populations preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills
    • Certified to administer WorkKeys or other career readiness assessments.
  • Competencies
    • Student/Stakeholder Focus: the ability to have a deep understanding of those served and to be responsive to their needs. This focus incorporates joint decision making that result in solutions to problems or opportunities through collaboration. The ability to demonstrate a willingness to put oneself in the minds of others and to anticipate needs from other points of views.
    • Entrepreneurial Approach: the ability to show commitment to continuous quality improvement by questioning “the way we have always done things,” building on what is working well, seeking to make improvements that advance institutional priorities and a high performance culture as well as identifying and implementing new creative approaches/strategies that promote responsive adaptation to changes in the educational, operational, financial, and/or global landscapes(s).
    • Forward Thinking: the ability to consider the context, environment, and impact of self and one’s activities on other college units when making data driven decisions and setting strategies. A person who is forward thinking understands what the gaps are between the college’s future needs and current capabilities and how a specific college unit can help close those gaps as well as capitalize on current or future opportunities.
    • Disciplined Implementation: the ability to support a high-performance culture by prioritizing effectively, focusing on efficiency, quality, fiscal responsibility (budget) and timelines as well as tracking progress against goals in order to deliver excellent results of the highest caliber. It is also a disciplined, process-focused approach to decision opportunities and challenges to ensure the student/stakeholder needs and the college’s strategic plain/initiatives and institutional priorities are met and sustained with a high standard of excellence, urgency and predictability. It is about remaining focused on continuous quality improvement to ensure efficient and effective use of resources in the execution of results.
    • Accountability: The ability to hold oneself and others accountable to clear standards of excellence in a high performance culture.  When necessary, leaders effectively and appropriately confront performance issues, resource constraints and other obstacles
    • Personal Impact: The ability to recognize our own feelings and those of others, to motivate ourselves, to manage emotions well in ourselves and in relationships.  Personal impact is the ability to appreciate a diverse working and learning environment, the ability to deliver individually and through others by having a positive interpersonal impact as well as treating all other fairly and equability.
    • Collaboration: the ability to collaborate effectively with others for the good of the college. It involves building, maintaining an environment of trust as well as maximizing internal relationships and networks. Sharing information and partnering across college units in order to generate maximum benefit for the college. It also involves demonstrating respect for others through active listening, leveraging others’ expertise and being open to diverse thoughts, perspectives, and ideas.  Individuals can work constructively with others, despite differences and are also willing to bring conflict into the open and encourage or facilitate a beneficial resolution.
    • Leading the Team (administrators with direct reports only): the effective ability to motivate others to do their jobs and provide clarity by communicating and connecting the institutional priorities and specific unit goals and ensuring the advancement of the college’s strategic plan. It entails a commitment to ensuring that people feel empowered and supported to fulfill their responsibilities and continue to grow and develop in a professional capacity.
