Two St. Joe’s Grads Make a Splash Turning Their Passion into a Boat Business

By

Matt Sawyer and Capt. Tim Merighi, both St. Joseph’s University graduates, are turning their passion into a business with Kick Back Tiki Cruise, writes Matt Petrillo for CBS3.

“We’ve always had the idea of starting on our business,” said Sawyer, who is a realtor.

They decided to start an experience for adults this summer by offering rides on their Tahitian-inspired boat which is already making a big splash down the Jersey Shore in West Wildwood’s Bayview Marina.

“We have a pristine intercoastal waterway,” said Merighi. “There’s different canals we can go in and out of.”

The pair studied at Saint Joseph’s University and came up with the concept last year, in the middle of the pandemic. They officially launched the experience last week.

“Kick back, relax, check your responsibilities at the door,” said Merighi.

The custom-made boat, which can fit up to six guests, is basically a floating bar. It features comfortable stools and Bluetooth speakers as well as a restroom.

The Kick Back Tiki Cruise is BYOB and BYOS – bring your own snacks.

“You basically can make this experience however you want it to be,” said Sawyer.
