Small-batch Huntingdon Valley Jewelry Designer Part of Philly Studio and New York Collective
Huntingdon Valley native Rachael Compton thought she was going to work in Public Relations, but instead found herself gravitating towards jewelry-making, reports Lisa Dukart for The Business Journals.
The Hometown Heroes collection, based in New York with retailer Madewell, was launched in 2019 with the focus of highlighting local creatives from around the country.
Compton and her designs which focus on minimal designs with playful intentions, goes under the name By Ren, will be available with Madewell for 6 months in addition to mentorships and grants.
Montgomery County native Compton has said that “40% of her jewelry sales are coming from the women’s fashion brand…building on the already successful business, which saw revenue nearly double annually since its inception in 2017.”
Rachael Compton currently works out of Philadelphia at Tshatshke Jewelry Studio in Port Richmond, the creation of Maddy Hirsch, who owns Rad Mad Jeweler, where items are available with other artisan-owned jewelry brands.
“There’s a ton of young women in Philly making jewelry like we are and there’s no real place to meet and talk and have that community,” Compton said. Now they do.
