Gwynedd Mercy University has announced the introduction of a Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing degree program. Designed to help meet the need for highly skilled nurse leaders, GMercyU’s DEMSN program is designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field and want to transition to a master’s-level career in nursing.  

The DEMSN is a 24-month, 79-credit, full-time program offered on the University’s Gwynedd Valley campus. Students will have access to advanced simulation labs and will complete a total of 765 hours of clinical preparation within the university’s network of more than 100 regional health care providers.

“Today’s growing need for competent and compassionate health care professionals makes this an ideal time to expand our nursing degree programs,” said Ann Phalen, PhD, CRNP, NNP-BC, Dean of the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions.  “This program will build on the University’s legacy of preparing highly skilled nurses who combine excellent clinical skills with a Mercy-centered focus on providing holistic compassionate care.”    

 “Nurses have always been on the front lines, caring for patients during disasters, pandemics, epidemics and routine healthcare visits,” said Phalen. “The need for nurses trained in the Mercy tradition has never been more acute, and we are excited to be able to expand the number of options available to students who want to join the ranks of some of the most trusted health care professionals in the world.” 

Gwynedd Mercy University’s nursing programs are approved by the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing.
