Ben Hartranft, a Lansdale resident, is spreading the message of acceptance during his visits to schools and businesses amid Autism Awareness Month, writes Jack Reinhard for WFMZ 69 News.

“I love going out there and just talking to people,” said Hartranft. “I love to say hi to everybody. They call me Benergy.”

Hartranft was diagnosed with autism in early childhood and has since managed to overcome numerous obstacles and become a public motivator as part of his company, Benergy1.

He also works at Dorney Park and is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles gameday staff. He has been actively involved with the Eagles Autism Challenge and has even got to hold the Lombardi Trophy.

Now, he is sharing his story in the hopes of inspiring others.

“I just want people to know having autism is not a bad thing,” he said, “and it doesn’t characterize who we are.”

Hartranft also wants to make sure everybody knows just how unique and special they are.

“I’m hoping they can make a new friend, and one tree could start a forest, one night could push back darkness, and one kind person can change the world,” he said recently at an event at Kutztown University.
