Main Line Health has unveiled the newly expanded inpatient psychiatric care unit at Bryn Mawr Hospital, which doubled its bed count in response to the surge in demand for its services primarily driven by the ongoing pandemic, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The $35 million, 44,000-square-foot unit now has 40 beds that will provide a continuum of adult psychiatric care.

“The investment we’re making in behavioral health underscores our belief that health care is human care,” said Jack Lynch, Main Line Health’s CEO.

In addition to 40 private rooms, the expanded two-floor space features special light rooms that help with depression and spaces for individual and group therapies, such as art therapy and music therapy, among others. The unit also has noise-canceling floors and ceilings, ambient music, and circadian lighting, along with 24-hour supervision.

Complimentary wellness programs that are evidence-based have also been integrated into the unit, including exercise, yoga, and meditation.

“We envision Main Line Health as a premier destination for all levels of emotional, psychiatric, and behavioral wellbeing for every member of the community we serve,” said John Schwarz, president of Bryn Mawr Hospital.
