The planned multimillion-dollar project for the modernization of Bryn Mawr Hospital’s campus is now adding seven floors rather than the original five, raising the originally projected costs from $200 to $250 million, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

These will allow it to add a new maternity unit, labor and delivery unit, as well as a neonatal intensive care unit. According to Andrea Gilbert, Bryn Mawr Hospital’s president, the project will increase the number of post-partum beds in the hospital from 22 to 25.

It will also add two birthing suites to go alongside the hospitals’ eight labor and delivery rooms.

“We thought we’d eventually add the program to the pavilion at a later time, but as we did our due diligence we decided the time was now,” explained Gilbert.

Gilbert went on to point out that the pavilion’s initial plan unveiled in August 2015, remained the same. The pavilion will create 54 new medical/surgical beds and add a new intensive care unit with 18 beds and 12 new operating rooms.

The only thing that will change with the latest adjustments is the floors where each of these units will be located.
