Jono Matusky, an Ardmore native who has substantial experience with startups, has founded Plynth, which allows marketing professionals and event planners to create an augmented reality layer over their marketing materials, thus integrating physical and digital products, writes Kennedy Rose for The Business Journals.

Matusky got the idea for his current endeavor while working for Innovadores Foundation, a Cuba-based organization.

“I quickly saw how a lot of the tools and opportunities that technology offered … hadn’t quite appeared in areas like music and art and in the creator economy,” said Matusky.

Plynth users can upload an image to the company’s portal to be used as a base for their portal. A QR code or a link then leads viewers of their work to a website or video using augmented reality.

“One way to describe it is that you can hold your phone up to something and it comes to life like a Harry Potter painting,” said Matusky.

The product is currently in early beta testing. Users currently have the option of creating a limited number of free augmented reality experiences and they can also subscribe to the “pro” service tier.
