Aqua, an Essential Utilities Company, teamed up with Cradles to Crayons, renowned for its work in providing clothing and essentials for Philadelphia-area children living in low-income or homeless situations, for an ongoing partnership in support of the nonprofit’s Gear Up for Winter and Ready For Learning initiatives.

In addition to signing on as the presenting sponsor for Gear Up for Winter, Aqua participated in the campaign by collecting donations of coats and other warm clothing for children through an employee-led collection drive. As part of its ongoing contributions, Aqua hosted an in-house employee volunteer day last week with the goal of packing 2,500 backpacks with school supplies to set up children in the Philadelphia region for success.

“We are thrilled to be able to support Cradles to Crayons in their mission to providing essential items for children in need,” said Christopher Franklin, chairman and CEO of Essential Utilities. “As a utility, we are committed to providing access to services that are critical to everyday life. But as a mission-based company, we know that nothing is more critical than warm winter clothing and basic necessities. We are honored to play a role in providing for our local community not only through a financial contribution, but also in the additional ways we have been able to support this mission as corporate volunteers in our community.”

During the backpack packing event, Aqua also presented a check for $50,000 from the Essential Foundation to enable Cradles to Crayons to continue its mission.
