Anticipating that more people may be returning to in-person work in the new year, SEPTA has altered its Regional Rail service to accommodate those returning commuters, writes Mike D’Onofrio for Axios.

On Sunday, Dec.19, SEPTA restored service on the suburban regional rail line to 75 percent of pre-pandemic levels, up from 65 percent.

You can visit the SEPTA website for changes in the service schedule.

You can also check out the train schedule changes on posters at stations, and on your phone with the official SEPTA App for iPhone and Android devices.

Services for the Chestnut Hill East and West, Manayunk/Norristown, Media/Elwyn, Paoli/Thorndale, and Fox Chase rail lines, among others, were restored.

SEPTA Ridership was down overall on trains, buses, and trolleys during the pandemic, and SEPTA slimmed-down service to compensate as revenues dropped.

Overall ridership currently is at 52 percent of pre-COVID levels.  Regional Rail ridership is at 40 percent, according to the SEPTA.

“We are focused on providing safe, efficient, and reliable service for our customers as we continue to move through this recovery,” said SEPTA CEO and general manager Leslie Richards in a released statement.
