Three grants were recently announced by Governor Tom Wolf under Pennsylvania’s Neighborhood Assistance Program. These Pennsylvania Grants will help food banks and pantries around Montgomery County. The grant awards total more than 2 million dollars, writes Joe Zlomek at The Sanatoga Post.

The grants are going to:

  • Genesis Housing Corp. will receive a $75,000 grant to address Pottstown neighborhood revitalization and blight remediation through smaller-scale improvement projects and façade funding;
  • The Children Advocacy Center of Montgomery County will receive a $18,750  grant to bring its Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center services from East Norriton to Pottstown to better serve victims of child abuse;
  • Philabundance, which provides foods and supplies to member organizations in Pottstown, Royersford, Phoenixville, Pennsburg, and Harleysville, and elsewhere in Montgomery County. They will receive $1.9 million to distribute 50 million pounds of food across its service network during 2022.

Genesis Housing Corporation partnered with Hobart’s Run, who was proud to support this effort, along with our friends at Mosaic Community Land Trust, Pottstown Community Action, and Habitat for Humanity.

Genesis Housing has rehabbed or constructed over 500 housing units to provide safe and decent housing for lower-income households. In Pottstown, they have renovated or built over 500 units as part of their overall neighborhood revitalization strategy including more than 90 homeowner renovations and over 70 vacant or new construction homes.

State Rep. Joe Ciresi, whose 146th House District includes Pottstown, praised the grants.

“At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing public health disparities,” he said, the program will assist in Pottstown’s ongoing revitalization and “lead to community improvements and a better quality of life,” he said.
