Lansdale Tween Starts Business with Help from His Four-legged Partner
Twelve-year-old Shane Popiny and his dog Pepper are a team to be reckoned with, writes Jamie Stover for the WFMZ 69 News.
Shane is a survivor of pediatric stroke and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Pepper helps him perform tasks many others take for granted.
“He can open doors,” said Shane. “He can close doors. He can help me take my shirt off.”
The pooch was trained by 4 Paws For Ability.
To get Pepper, Shane raised $17,000 by making and selling candles – something he loves to do.
Now, he has decided to start making candles again, only this time instead of doing it for fundraising, he is starting a business, Shane and Pepper Candle Company.
His candle-making has currently taken over the family dining room and soon they are planning to open a storefront in Lansdale. Shane plans to donate $1 for 4 Paws for Ability and is also hoping to raise awareness and inspire.
“I just don’t want people with disabilities like me to feel alone, like I did a long time ago,” he said.
Pepper serves as quality control – he gives each candle the stamp of approval.
