Ambler-based Simplex Health, which uses a “food as medicine” approach to help its patients, is looking to raise $3 million in a Series B round, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The company was started by David Rambo after his own battle with an aggressive form of type 2 diabetes helped him realize that food can play a pivotal role in a number of chronic diseases.
Now, he is using a similar approach to help people with several chronic conditions, including hypertension and high cholesterol.
Simplex Health works with health systems and physician groups to ensure patients get a care team that covers all of their needs, including a registered dietitian, a health coach, and access to physician advisors.
The team works alongside the patient’s primary care doctor to guide them through the practice’s evidence-based protocols that match up with an individual’s biology and lifestyle.
“We want to do something more powerful than managing a condition and maintaining the status quo,” said Rambo.
Since it was founded in 2015, the company has raised $500,000 from a group of angel investors and another $1 million in a Series A round.
