West Chester University has teamed up with Penn Fusion Soccer Academy/EPL Sports to provide a Youth Leadership certificate program on campus from June 28-30.

This program is designed for individuals ages 16-22.

Over three days, attendees will be onsite at WCU’s campus and equipped with skills to lead themselves and others to be successful in both sports and life. In the morning, instruction will cover leadership essentials, including:

  • growth mindset
  • leading individuals and leading teams
  • effective communication skills
  • emotional intelligence
  • diversity and inclusion

Once completed, attendees will be awarded nine contact hours in Youth Leadership from WCU’s Continuing Professional Education.

The afternoons will continue with valuable instruction to earn U.S. Soccer/FIFA Coaches Qualification and take to WCU’s soccer field to demonstrate newly acquired skills. Attendees will be awarded the U.S. Soccer/FIFA Grassroots Coaches License 7v7, the first step on the ladder to becoming a top coach.

Candidates will learn more about U.S. Soccer’s Grassroots Coaching Education Philosophy, Play-Practice-Play Methodology, the Six Tasks of a Coach, and the characteristics of young soccer players. The course will also ask each candidate to reflect on their experiences to develop action steps for personal growth.

Students will also be able to get out on the field and receive training by qualified professional coaches.
