The local food pantries in Norristown, Collegeville, and Phoenixville have a great need for many items and are accepting food donations this weekend, from 10am- 1pm, at the Collegeville Municipal Building, located at 491 Main Street in Collegeville.

“I noticed a great need for food in my area and lack of support for local small businesses. I was raised in Collegeville and went to Perkiomen Valley with my 5 brothers and sisters, so it holds a special place in my heart,” says resident Kathy Hydier-Straub, of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Whoever drops off a donation will be given a page of free, good coupons to be used toward local small businesses in Collegeville. Please support your local businesses because they are the ones who give back to the community.”

Kathy also says that the food banks are in need of gift cards to Giant and Walmart. They both deliver for free and there is usually one of these stories in their area.

Food cards will be given to Veterans Brotherhood and they have Paypal if you wish donate directly to them, she notes. This will also support Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth in Norristown; they will be receiving some of the children’s toiletries and hair care products.

These food pantries specifically need:

  • Healthy cereals
  • Canned chicken and ham
  • Potatoes  carrots  apples  oranges  celery
  • small cups of applesauce and fruit
  • Toiletries for children and adults
  • Shampoo and conditioner for African-American hair, and body/bath wash
  • Condiments
  • Bread
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Individual bags of chips
