Anthony Scarpone-Lambert, a University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing senior from Chalfont, hopes to hit it big with his invention of wearable lights for nurses, writes Alfred Lubrano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Along with his cofounder, Scarpone-Lambert believes he has created a solution to the problem of hospital personnel disturbing patients at night. The invention has been launched under his company, Lumify Care.

The 21-year-old senior, who is a first-generation student, is hoping to start selling the uNight Light next month. The cost of each light will be $20.

His business partner is Jenniffer Mancillas, a registered nurse at a California hospital. They met at a Johnson & Johnson sponsored collaborative entrepreneurial conference and competition.

They worked together on researching the difficulties patients that many have to get enough sleep during their hospital stay when nurses are turning on the light to administer care.

After interviewing 250 nurses, they came up with this 2-by-1-inch LED light they believe is a game-changer.

“I made it my personal mission to prove that no matter if I am a first-gen student, I can overcome challenges and reach goals for myself,” said Scarpone-Lambert.
