Eye on St. Gabriel’s Hall: Closure Looking to Draw Interest from Developers
The closure of St. Gabriel’s Hall in Lower Providence by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is expected to draw significant interest from developers once the property hits the market, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Township officials met with Archdiocese representatives late last year to review how the property was zoned and what the available development options were for its nearly 60 acres.
“We wanted them to be well aware of what can and can’t go on the property,” said Donald D. Delamater, township manager.
The township has not been approached by developers yet, but Delamater acknowledged that this is likely to change in the future.
“Once this hits the market, that’s when things will ramp up and I’m sure we will get a lot of proposals from developers,” he said. “There’s a lot that will go into this before it’s all said and done.”
The Archdiocese announced the closure of St. Gabriel’s Hall last Fall, but there has not been any discussion yet on what will be done with the roughly 250,000-square-foot school and the land that surrounds it. The property is zoned for residential use.
