Pennsylvania has released an updated COVID-19 vaccine plan which makes more people eligible to receive shots during the initial phases of the rollout, writes Michael Rubinkam for NBC10 Philadelphia.

The first to be vaccinated are still health care workers and nursing home residents. Following that, the vaccines will be administered to people 75 years and older as well as essential workers such as teachers and grocery store clerks.

In the next stage, eligibility has been expanded to people between ages 65 and 74, people with serious health conditions, and employees that work in industries ranging from banking to energy.

However as the distribution of vaccines continues, state health officials cautioned that Pennsylvania is still months away from having a sufficient amount of doses to inoculate the general public.

“I know it is difficult to ask, but we must have patience,” said Dr. Rachel Levine, the state health secretary. “It will take several months before this vaccine is available for everyone.”

So far, Pennsylvania has received more than 827,000 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines with more than 235,000 shots already administered.
