Marilyn Stoughton Lewis, a Lansdale resident and former Pennsylvania state representative, died on December 7 at Abington-Lansdale Hospital aged 89, writes Bonnie L. Cook for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Lewis, who was married to Andrew “Drew” L. Lewis Jr., represented the 147th District in central and upper Montgomery County as a member of the Pennsylvania House.

She served as a Republican committeewoman and was a tireless campaigner for her husband in his bid for governor of Pennsylvania in 1974. She also served at the 1976 Republican National Convention as an alternate delegate and campaigned for Ronald Reagan in his presidential bid in 1980.

Lewis lived in Lower Salford Township before moving to Lansdale fifteen years ago.

“She was the consummate lady,” said her neighbor Bruce L. Castor Jr. “A person who kept quiet, listened carefully, and rarely spoke. But when she did speak, people listened very carefully. A fine urbane lady.”

Lewis was also well known for her generosity.

“She never worried about getting credit,” said her son Andy. “She would drive around at night before many Christmases, dropping off gifts and money anonymously on the front porches of those in need.”
