Limerick Diner Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection, But Staying Open

The entity behind Limerick Diner, Limerick Dining Corp., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to the pandemic, writes Laura Smythe for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The entity has both assets and debt valued at $50,000 or less, according to filings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Limerick Realty Partners LLC, which is also registered at the diner’s address and the owner of the real estate, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as well. The entity also has assets and debt each valued at $50,000 or less.

Mark Klein, president of both entities, has owned and operated several Pennsylvania and New Jersey diners for over 15 years. His portfolio has included Pottstown Metro 101 Diner and Upper Darby’s Llanerch Diner, the latter of which was featured in the “Silver Linings Playbook” movie starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

The diner is remaining open despite the bankruptcy proceedings. The plan is for both entities is to go through reorganization.

“The restaurant and bar industry has been particularly hit hard by COVID and this entity didn’t have a blip before COVID,” said Klein.
