St. Joseph’s Ready to Adjust to Future with New Partnerships, Programs
Amid the growingly challenging environment for many colleges, St. Joseph’s University – which straddles the Philadelphia-Lower Merion line – is ready to adjust for the future with new partnerships and programs, writes Susan Snyder for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
When St. Joseph’s University president Mark C. Reed first mentioned the possibility of a merger late last month, his comments rippled through the sector.
“Ultimately what we would love to do is add new programs,” said Reed. “There’s lots of different ways to do that. You can start the programs from scratch. You can acquire them. You can merge with another institution.”
Just days after making these remarks, Reed sent out a message to alumni and parents, assuring them that the school was on solid ground for some time to come.
“It would be an overstatement to say that we are immune to strains of the pandemic, but we are well-positioned to withstand any circumstance, as we have for nearly 170 years,” he wrote.
The university also clarified that it is not an acquisition candidate, but rather it welcomes conversations on possibly acquiring other institutions or partnering with them in other ways.
