Sean Conley, who was appointed as President Trump’s physician two years ago, is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, writes Allyson Waller and Christina Morales for The New York Times.

According to the American Osteopathic Association, doctors of osteopathic medicine are fully licensed physicians. They undergo similar training to that of traditional doctors, with the exception that they are trained to look at the body and its care holistically instead of prescribing medicine for specific symptoms or diseases.

Conley, who has been caring for the president during his recovery from coronavirus, took over as White House physician after Dr. Ronny L. Jackson was nominated for the position of secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

He was named acting White House physician in March 2018 and was officially appointed to the position by Trump three months after that.

Prior to his position at the White House, Conley served as chief of trauma for the NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit in Afghanistan. He also served as director of the medical center’s combat trauma research group for two years.
