How good is Andiario, the Gay Street restaurant that has received nothing but high praise since it opened in the borough two-plus years ago?

So good that it’s only one of three restaurants outside the city, and the only one in the western suburbs, that Philadelphia magazine has included in its annual list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Philadelphia.

The other two are in Collingswood, N.J.

Andiario – “a Pennsylvania restaurant with an artisanal approach to cooking,” as stated on its website – ranked No. 12 on the list, which features restaurants almost exclusively within the city of Philadelphia.

A little more than two years ago, Chef Anthony Andiario and his partner, Maria van Schaijik, decided to move to Chester County and start their own restaurant. Entering a food scene in West Chester that lives and dies by each plate of pasta was a brave move, but it has paid off for the couple.

From the very start, the restaurant managed to stand out by offering some of the best tonnarelli, fusi, and ricotta gnudi with pears and fonduta.

And thanks to its authentic, handmade pasta, Andiario became an instant hit and one of the hardest reservations to come by in the suburbs.
