Gary Player, the golfing legend who has been staying with his daughter in Schwenksville during the pandemic, returned to Aronimink Golf Club the site of his 1962 PGA Championship win, to watch the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, writes Joe Juliano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Player, who still looks as fit at 84 as he did during his seven decades as one of the great ambassadors of golf, along with his wife Vivienne have been in Montgomery County since spring. Player has been using the free time to check out the local golf courses.

“Honest to goodness, now that I’ve been here for six months and playing all these different golf courses, what a state,” said Player.

He has visited Aronimink several times to play, but this time he came to watch other pros – and was delighted to see women playing the course.

“They’re steeped in tradition and history, with the men’s U.S. Open and PGA have been taking place,” he said. “So it’s wonderful to see the ladies playing these same golf courses as well.”
