Thanks to its available resources, The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr is planning to have all children attend in-person classes every day of the week in the fall, writes Maria Panaritis for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

To achieve this, one of the most prestigious private schools in suburban Philadelphia has developed an elaborate, labor-intensive plan revolving around an astounding array of if-then statements and contingency plans.

“This is incredibly expensive,” said head of school Michael Turner.

The school is buying web cameras to be used for streaming live classes into homes of those who want to learn virtually. Within classrooms, the school is reducing its already small class sizes of 15 to 9, 10, or 11 students.

As part of this strategy, the school is hiring more teachers and staff and installing plastic-glass shields on desks. Also, 10 huge tents to serve as extra class space will be erected on the athletic fields.

Getting everything ready has not been easy, said Turner.

“Our team, people haven’t had a day off since winter break,” he said.
