Horsham’s Curt Simmons, Phillies Wall of Famer and one of the last two living Whiz Kids, is keeping the memory alive of the team that won the National League title in 1950, writes Frank Fitzpatrick for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The unexpected title was the only pennant the franchise managed to win between 1915 and 1980, making the team local heroes and earning them the popular Whiz Kids moniker.

Simmons moved into his Horsham ranch house in 1979 and is still living there at 91. Here he likes to enjoy reliving the days he along with his teammates celebrated with the other surviving Whiz Kid, 94-year-old Bob Miller.

Despite being separated by hundreds of miles, the two still like to talk once every few weeks. They remind themselves of the places they visited, players they faced on the field, and teammates they lost over the years.

“If they don’t talk for a while, they miss each other,” said Miller’s son, Bob Jr. “Their stories are great. You can tell it invigorates them.”
