To become part of the growing life sciences community in the Philadelphia region, China-based AnPac Bio-Medical Science has opened its U.S. headquarters and a cancer screening lab in Spring House Innovation Park in Lower Gwynedd, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

In addition to its operations in China, the biotechnology company already owns a lab in San Jose, California.

The company has signed a 10-year lease for 6,724 square feet at the campus and will launch the new space with three employees. AnPac Bio expects to see that number grow to a staff of 50 eventually.

AnPac Bio currently sells its cancer detection products in China but is in the process of obtaining regulatory approval to start commercial operations in the United States.

“The commencement in operations of our Philadelphia lab signals that AnPac Bio is entering into a new growth phase in the United States,” said Dr. Chris Yu, CEO of Anpac Bio.

He added that the new space also has a diagnostic analyzer that has been granted emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration for COVID-19 antibody testing.
