Spike Mendelsohn, a former contestant on the reality TV cooking show Top Chef, has opened a new vegan burger joint in Wynnewood, writes Eleanor Ho for the Main Line Today.

PLNT Burger opened within Wynnewood’s Whole Foods Market in June. It offers a menu featuring reimagined American cuisine with its primary focus on burgers.

The plant-based burgers are made with Beyond Meat patties. There are numerous options available, from the traditional PLNT burger with tomato, lettuce, pickles, and sauce toppings, to a mushroom-bacon-barbecue burger.

In addition to burgers, the eatery also offers a chili bowl with ground Beyond Meat, a selection of Beyond Meat hot dogs, a crispy vegan chicken sandwich, salads, and sides.

And while some people are skeptical about plant-based meat substitutes, Mendelsohn is certain nobody will be disappointed.

“First and foremost, it’s delicious,” he said. “You have everything that you would want out of a burger spot—slightly greasy, meaty, hot, and delicious.”

He added that his place is not “necessarily for vegans or vegetarians, it’s for people that are just looking for something alternative to red meat but still love to eat America’s favorite style of food.”
