After closing the sole federally funded COVID-19 site on Tuesday, Montgomery County is getting ready to open six more sites next week, writes Jennifer Lynn for the WHYY.

The walk-up testing sites will be supported by some of the funding the county received from the CARES Act. These will be at no cost to residents. To be tested, individuals will not require an order from a health provider.

“We will test people of any age and we want to strongly encourage people to get tested even if they just want to be tested, even if they’re just curious, because the more people that get tested, the better eyes we will have on what’s going on in the community,” said Montgomery County Commissioner Chair Dr. Valerie Arkoosh.

Arkoosh also said that the county now has a much better understanding of the virus than when the outbreak first began. Additionally she reemphasized the importance of wearing a mask.

“Sixteen weeks ago, we didn’t understand that the virus can linger in the air,” she said. “Now we know that. And that’s part of why masks are so important.”
