King of Prussia’s Maestroe Sports Pushes Fringe Sports Into Mainstream
Wayne-based Maestroe Sports and Entertainment, owned by Gabby Roe, finds fringe sports with high-growth potential and pushes them into the spotlight, writes Phil Anastasia for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Over the years, Roe has become one of the catalysts for an underground revolution in the world of sports.
He is responsible for formalizing beach soccer and growing it into a world phenomenon that is recognized and administered by the Federation of International Football Association.
“I literally drew up a business plan on a napkin on the airplane,” said Roe.
Since then, he has turned his attention to organizing and promoting other sports that are mostly considered fringe – that is until he decides to take them on.
Roe, who grew up in Gladwyne, describes his company as a “growth engine for high-growth sports in various stages of their development.”
One of his latest efforts, break dancing – now known as Breaking – has just been approved for a debut at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
Other sports his company is currently promoting include cornhole, curling, axe throwing, and ultimate Frisbee, among many others.
