To make the bleak self-isolation days a little brighter for her neighborhood, a Monty Python fan from Elkins Park has joined a worldwide movement and handed jurisdiction over her sidewalk to the Ministry of Silly Walks, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Ministry of Silly Walks appeared in a classic 1970 Monty Python sketch where John Cleese plays a rubber-legged cabinet head in the fictional government agency.

Now, Cindy Appelbaum has placed a sign in front of her home that reads:

“YOU HAVE NOW ENTERED THE JURISDICTION OF THE MINISTRY OF SILLY WALKS. COMMENCE SILLY WALKING IMMEDIATELY.”

She is sharing some of the silly walks captured on her home surveillance cameras on her silly walk Instagram account.

Appelbaum, who lives on High School Road in Elkins Park, said she spied dads explain her sign to their children and then do silly walk with them.

“It’s really fun to see it without people knowing you’re watching,” she said. “Everybody knows how to walk silly.”

As a bonus, her camera also captured two deer walking very silly through the Ministry’s jurisdiction.
