Justin Riegel, director of golf at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley, was killed on June 3 during a violent thunderstorm that smashed a tree into the pro shop and cart barn at the club, writes Joe Juliano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Riegel, who lived in Conshohocken, participated in the PGA Golf Management program at Penn State from 2000 to 2004.
He worked at Aronimink Golf Club, Wilmington Country Club, and Gulph Mills Golf Club as an assistant pro before becoming head pro at French Creek Golf Club. He joined Philmont in March 2019 as head pro.

In addition to his love of the game, Riegel enjoyed being a golf professional because it allowed him to help the members at Philmont Country Club or the Philadelphia Section PGA whenever they needed aid with anything.
“Whether it was for the section or the club or anyone, he was the first guy to volunteer for anything,” said Bryan Kienke, Riegel’s close friend and former colleague in the Philadelphia Section.
