Montgomery County May 11th COVID-19 Update

Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Saturday press release, here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley, and Pennsylvania.

Montgomery County reported 73 new COVID-19 positive cases Saturday, down from the 101 new cases reported the previous day.

The 101 new cases, 46 of which were females, came from 29 municipalities. Sixty-one of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Only one Montgomery County municipality, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero COVID-19 cases to date.

The new positive cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 5,010 countywide, 2,616 of which are females, 2,360 are males.

The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.7 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110-year-old Abington man, the oldest.

Sixteen of the county’s 62 municipalities – Lower Merion (417), Springfield (399), Cheltenham (394), Abington (355), Norristown (354), Lower Providence (306), Upper Moreland (162), Upper Providence (165), Horsham (129), Whitemarsh (126), Hatfield Township (119), Upper Merion (115), Montgomeryville (115), Lower Gwynedd (112), Lansdale (112), and Upper Dublin (104)  have 100 or more cases and collectively account for 69.5% of the positive coronavirus cases countywide..

Nine new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 71- to 94-years-old were reported in Montgomery County Saturday.

Three hundred and forty (82.1%) of Montgomery County’s 414 COVID-19 deaths were of individuals residing in 13 municipalities; Springfield Township (67), Lower Merion (45), Upper Providence (39), Upper Gwynedd Township (31), Abington (30), Cheltenham (27), Norristown (23), Horsham (16), Lower Gwynedd (14), Montgomeryville (13), Whitemarsh (13) Upper Moreland (12), and Upper Merion (10).

The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 414 is 11.2% of the 3,707 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.

The County’s 5,010 COVID-19 cases represent 8.8-percent of the 56,611 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.

By comparison, as of noon Sunday when the state updated their coronavirus case count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 14,883 COVID-19 positive cases and 857 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
